My name is Darya Potyagova. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#86931). I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, but immigrated to California with my family at the age of four. Even though I have been here for over 20 years, I have managed to preserve my native tongue, and speak Russian fluently. I live with my daughter Anastasia Marie and our three very fun cats Hamlet, Louise, and Tybalt. As you can tell from their names, I am a big fan of Shakespeare. I graduated from Hollywood High Performing Arts Magnet with honors from the theater program. The performing arts has and will always hold a special place in my heart. Before theater, I was trained in classical ballet, and eventually got into modern jazz, and hip hop. My love for all things psychology sparked when I started my first year of community college. Since attending my very first psychology course, I knew that that was where my heart belonged. I attended Los Angeles City College right after graduating high school. From there, I transferred to California State University of Los Angeles, and at the same time, starting taking online classes from Dubna University of Nature, Society, and Man located in Moscow, Russia.
I have been in the field of psychology for over 10 years. My specialties include helping my clients overcome Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, LGBTQ+ related issues, Gender Identity, Couples Counseling, Divorce, Infertility, Infidelity, Substance Abuse, Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders, Addiction, Anger Management, Familial Conflicts, OCD, End of Life, Grief, Parenting Counseling, Overcoming Stress, and Trauma. I have experience working with clients all along the age spectrum from ages 5 to 95. I believe that the process of evolving is ongoing, and with each new year comes a new set of lessons to be learned.
I approach my practice from a holistic standpoint. I believe that all we need is ourselves and our willingness to heal. I follow the wisdom of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally. Don’t make assumptions. Always do your best.
